+ our profile
Victorian Theatre Company ("VTC") is the public name for victorian theatre, an enterprise, incorporated under malaysian company law in 2002 mainly to find, train and nurture young adults to involve themselves actively in the organization, conceptualization, creation, and fruition of artistic activities such as theatre.
+ our repertoire
VTC broke into the malaysian theatre scene in August 2002 as one of the first productions to be held at the actors studio greenhall, penang, with Port Klang Harbour, an original play co-written by iqmal shafiq, govin ruben, vinod patmanathan and kiran dev; co-directed by avinash pradhan and felicity burbridge and produced by lee yee yang.
six months later, we followed up with david mamet's sightings & high tide, directed by david lim and produced by lee yee yang. in august 2003, we served up the second installment to the shorts franchise (concept taken over from now defunct local youth theatre group, chaotic harmony theatre), concisely named shorts ii.
we then decided to re-focus our efforts on the development of our speech & drama courses; resulting in our brief hiatus from public productions. however, we are currently working towards shorts iii, which hopefully will be on in the second or third quarter of 2005.
+ our objectives
Aimed at encouraging and inculcating artistic expression and coherent presentation of opinions and ideas of young individuals, VTC is a strong advocate of "theatre for the young, by the young." We seek to increase general awareness of the benefits and value of theatre and the arts in developing creative expression and empowering individuals with day to day transferable skills and abilities.
+ our philosophy
We strongly believe in the complimentary and supplementary benefits of artistic expression to the local education system and as an outlet for expression and development trust it to be naturally capable of channelling the energy of today's youth to positive activities, discouraging them from wasteful and pointless activities. It is with all these in mind that we embarked on a joint venture with Education Ventures Sdn Bhd to provide Speech and Drama Lessons to two of its private secondary schools - Sekolah Seri Suria and Sekolah Seri Cahaya.
+ our aspirations
VTC continuously welcomes interested individuals to be a part of our productions and more importantly our cause - to instill a passion and appreciation of the creative and performing arts in Malaysian society, to spur local theatre, especially youth theatre, to new and greater heights and ultimately to employ theatre and the arts as a platform to identify, value and combat social issues and problems.
